Angels, Who Could Use a Little Relief, Put Donnie Moore on 15-Day Disabled List

The Angels placed reliever Donnie Moore on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, further weakening a beleaguered bullpen.

Moore, who is suffering from soreness and stiffness in his right shoulder, is eligible to return to the active roster June 9. But General Manager Mike Port said Moore’s condition could require additional healing time.

Moore will be replaced by rookie Todd Fischer, 25, who compiled a 1-0 record, 1 save and a 4.66 earned-run average in 14 games with the Angels’ Triple-A Edmonton team this season. That gives the Angels three rookie pitchers in the bullpen (T.R. Bryden, Chuck Finley and Fischer), as well as veterans Terry Forster (no saves, 4.91 ERA), who was released by the Atlanta Braves this spring, and Doug Corbett (4 saves, 3.60 ERA).

Moore leads the team with 7 saves but has a 1-3 record, a 5.21 ERA and 4 botched save opportunities. He underwent an arthrogram on Tuesday, a process that involves a dye injection followed by X-rays. Team physician Dr. Lewis Yocum later discovered “irregularities” and has prescribed an exercise program that is designed to strengthen the area around Moore’s right shoulder socket.
