Help-wanted advertising fell sharply last month.
The Conference Board’s help-wanted index measuring the volume of classified advertising in 51 major newspapers fell to 132 in April, six points below the March reading of 138 and matching the figure recorded in April, 1985. “The fall in want-ad volume was steeper and broader in April than in the prior three months,” said Kenneth Goldstein, an economist with the research group.
