For the second time, an editor of the Humboldt State University newspaper was suspended for publishing political endorsements in violation of state regulations. Howard Seemann, faculty adviser for the Lumberjack, said he suspended Editor-in-Chief Ron Boyce for violating Title 5 of the state Administrative Code, which prohibits state-funded campus newspapers from endorsing candidates, propositions or other ballot measures. Boyce was suspended until the end of the quarter--next week--after publishing recommendations for Proposition 51, the “deep pockets” initiative on insurance liability, and for candidates for Humboldt County district attorney and local supervisors. Former editor Adam Truitt was suspended by Seemann for three weeks in November, 1984, also 1718579744Truitt brought suit to dispute the ruling, and his case is still in litigation.
