Swiss Driver Is Killed, Co-Driver Hurt in Rally
Michel Wyder, 24, of Switzerland, a co-driver with countryman Marc Surer, was killed Saturday in a crash during a rally at Schotten, West Germany.
Surer, 34, a Formula One driver, was listed in grave condition after breaking both legs and his pelvis and suffering extensive third-degree burns.
The crash occurred when their Ford RS 200 skidded out of control and hurtled into trees, flying apart and exploding in a ball of fire.
