According to a report by the F. W. Dodge division of McGraw-Hill Information Systems, the surge in construction contracting in April more than covered declines earlier in the year and put 1986 activity 1.5% ahead of the 1985 level for the first four months. Work began on $248.7 billion of building projects in April at an annual rate, up 14.8% from March’s yearly pace of $216.7 billion, the report said.
