6,200 Agree to Leave Exxon

Exxon Corp., the world’s biggest oil company, said today that 6,200 employees have accepted offers to leave the company that but some firings still are possible.

Exxon announced April 22 that it was offering early retirements or “special separation” to 40,500 employees, in hopes that about 15%, or 6,375, would accept by the May 30 deadline. The company is now trying to determine how many “involuntary separations” may be required, a spokesman said.
