250 Arrested in Tehran for Improper Clothing
More than 250 people have been arrested in Tehran for wearing “decadent” clothes, the Iranian capital’s police reported.
A police statement, quoted by the newspaper Kayhan, said 225 men and 29 women have been turned over to Islamic courts since police Tuesday afternoon started arresting “persons insufficiently clad or wearing clothes marked by obscene . . . words or in decadent Western colors and models.”
The arrests are part of a new series of government measures to enforce Islamic codes of behavior more strictly.
