Former Rep. Bella Abzug, who once said she was quitting politics, threw her trademark hat back into the ring today and said she will seek to return to the House of Representatives.

Abzug, 65, formally announced that she will seek the Democratic nomination from the 20th Congressional District in Westchester County, in suburban New York City.

The feminist and peace-movement activist faces a primary challenge in September from three other Democrats. The winner will face the GOP incumbent, Joseph DioGuardi.

Abzug represented a Manhattan district for six years and made an unsuccessful Senate bid in 1976. The following year, she ran for mayor of New York City, but lost in the primary to then Rep. Edward I. Koch.

She recently opened a law practice in White Plains.
