Trash Plant Opposed

Share

Why trash Tierrasanta? I’m speaking of the proposed SANDER garbage-burning project, which could be located as close to Tierrasanta as Clairemont Mesa Boulevard and California 163. Why build a potentially hazardous facility that will emit tons of pollutants each day so close to such a heavily populated area? For that matter, why build it in San Diego County at all?

In the wake of the recent Soviet nuclear energy plant disaster, I hope the race to implement a plan that is untested and unsafe will be halted immediately and permanently.

My wife and I are proud to live in San Diego County. It’s a beautiful place. What we don’t understand is how a project with the potential for creating such serious side effects has gotten this far. If there’s no 100% guarantee of public safety, there should be no plant. Where have all our public officials been while this has been going on? Who’s protecting the public and the public welfare?

Please help now to halt this project!

It is impossible to believe that the benefits of such a trash-burning plant could outweigh the health, safety and welfare of the residents of San Diego (America’s Finest City?). I would hate to be forced to move back to Pittsburgh, just because the Steel City’s air is safer to breathe than ours.
