MSI Data Corp. Reports 1986 Earnings of $172,000

Citing a strong market for its new product line, MSI Data Corp. of Costa Mesa reported a fiscal 1986 profit of $172,000, a considerable improvement over the previous year’s loss of $1.5 million. Annual revenues were $62.5 million, an 11% increase from $56.2 million.

For the fourth quarter, MSI reported a profit of $288,000, contrasted with a quarterly loss of $2.1 million the previous year. Revenues for the period ended March 29 were $16.5 million, up 12% from $14.7 million.

MSI manufactures portable data collection devices, similar to those used by inventory takers in supermarkets.

President Charles Strauch attributed the improved performance to the company’s introduction of a new line of data collection devices early this year. Strauch said he expected sales to continue to improve as the remainder of the new product line is brought into full production.
