Release of information that escaped game-warden killer Claude Dallas was believed to be in the San Francisco area may have blown one of the best leads police have had in their hunt for the self-styled “mountain man,” said Ada County, Ida., Sheriff Vaughan Killeen. The sheriff said he still doesn’t know who leaked the information that Dallas’ girlfriend and traveling companion, Margaret Lundy, 36, was spotted in the Bay Area--but the damage is already done. “We had knowledge of this for several weeks and had been working in the area,” said Killeen, who heads the information clearinghouse in the 10 1/2-week manhunt for Dallas, 36. “It’s pretty apparent now that they know, and if they know it would be foolish for them to stay in the area.”
