‘Ballots for Kids’

Share

Your editorial (June 6) recommending “Ballots for Kids” caught my eye, as I spent Election Day volunteering at a local precinct.

Every precinct is supplied with a practice vote recorder with a short ballot that includes the question about California’s Indian name. This entertaining ballot also gives you the chance to vote for Cecil B. De Mille for Secretary of Art, and to decide whether or not the nation should change to a three-day work week!

My 5-year-old son enjoyed “voting” with the practice device and I enjoyed reading the questions. Although the purpose of the practice recorder is to help familiarize adults with the mechanics of voting, parents who bring their children to the polls might find it a good way to introduce them to voting, too.
