A father who confessed to stabbing his son to death in a fight over the son’s demand for money to buy drugs was released Sunday after the district attorney decided that he acted in self-defense.

John Simmons, 56, was not charged in the slaying Saturday. The Brooklyn district attorney’s office found that he had stabbed his son, Angelo, 27, after the younger Simmons attacked him, a police spokesman said.
