A van carrying a Southern California-based band crashed 40 miles northeast of Las Vegas, killing one man and injuring nine others, two of them seriously, authorities said. The band, called Caminantes, was en route to Las Vegas, where it was scheduled to play at a dance at the Sahara Hotel. The Nevada Highway Patrol said it appeared that the driver, Martin Ramirez, 21, of Fontana, fell asleep at the wheel, causing the van to run off the road and roll over. The dead man’s name was withheld pending notification of relatives. Brigido Ramirez, 31, of Fontana was hospitalized in critical condition with head injuries. Humberto Navarro, 30, of Ontario suffered abdominal injuries and was listed as serious. Seven other men suffered minor injuries.
