President Reagan, citing U.S. contributions to Persian Gulf security and Middle East stability, announced today that Saudi Arabia has met conditions for receipt of five sophisticated AWACS radar planes purchased in 1981.

Barring an unexpected last-minute move to derail the deal, Reagan’s formal notification to Congress should remove the last obstacles to delivery of the Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft over the next nine months.
