The Senate, in a laborious push through a pile of amendments to its tax reform bill, today passed a special provision for handicapped workers sponsored by Republican leader Bob Dole, a disabled veteran.

The Dole amendment would change the tax overhaul bill to allow severely handicapped people to take employee business expense deductions for equipment and other special help they need in order to work. “We fail to take into account the major expenses of severely handicapped people,” said Dole. “The expenses are so large, some might not be able to take the job.”
