Police arrested actor Martin Sheen and 18 other people for trespassing today during a sit-in at a research firm that holds defense contracts and Sheen, sitting in a paddy wagon, called it the happiest day of his life.

Sheen and the 18 others, including Father Daniel Berrigan, a prominent peace activist, were carted off to a police station after sitting for almost two hours in the doorway of the Riverside Research Institute on Manhattan’s West Side. The demonstrators charged that the institute is committing “war crimes” because it said about two-thirds of its budget is funded by defense contracts from the U.S. government.
