MARSHALL: “FOG TROPES.” SATOH: “BIRDS IN WARPED TIME II.” DRESHER: “CHANNELS PASSING.” SCOTT: “RAINBOWS,” PART 2. LENTZ: “O-KE-WA.” ADAMS: “LIGHT OVER WATER,” PART 3. New Albion NA-009 (compact disc). This engaging sampler from the catalog of New Albion (a small San Francisco record company specializing in minimalist music and its kinfolk) merits hearing, if only for Ingram Marshall’s “Fog Tropes,” a yearning, evanescently textured 10-minute essay mixing brass sextet, fog horns and other ambient sounds, which will come as revelation to listeners who know the work in only its LP guise. Satoh’s experiments with violin and piano, and Lentz’ cheery amalgams for voice and percussion promise much, even in abridged form. Top-drawer sound.
