ON THE TOWN: Eurythmics made a surprise, invitation-only club appearance Monday night at the Roxy. There the band, led by a bleached-blond Annie Lennox in a black leather cycle jacket, debuted its new “Missionary Man” video and showed off a quartet of new songs from its upcoming album. On hand were Jack Nicholson, ex-Go-Go Gina Shock, Textone Carla Olson and (dare we call him Sir) Bob Geldof, who’s working with Eurythmic Dave Stewart on his new solo record. Our favorite touch: Each table at the club was adorned with hot chili popcorn and carrot chips, while after the show a squadron of sushi chefs took the stage and sliced and served an assortment of raw fish. . . . Hard-rockers Night Ranger aren’t due in L.A. for a while, but they’ve offered to play a more exotic locale--the Soviet Union. The band recently sent a letter to the Soviet minister of culture, offering the group’s services for a benefit concert in the Soviet Union. All proceeds would go directly to displaced persons and the families of victims of the recent Chernobyl nuclear disaster. While nothing’s official yet, the group’s management received a reply Monday that it termed “encouraging,” saying that the request had been passed along to higher channels at the ministry. . . . And David Lee Roth’s new album, “Eat ‘Em and Smile,” won’t premiere on his Fourth of July radio show, as Westwood One officials had indicated last week. A spokeswoman for Roth said the record will go out to all radio stations July 3.
