Architects, Industrialist Honored by L. A. Chamber

Ernest C. Wilson Jr. and Robert E. Langdon Jr., founding partners of Langdon Wilson Mumper Architects, and Hal Dornsife, chairman of the board of the Herrick Corp., have been awarded lifetime achievement awards by the Construction Industries Committee of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce.

The 125-employee Langdon Wilson Mumper firm, with offices in Los Angeles and Newport Beach, was founded in 1951 by Langdon and Wilson. It was ranked ninth out of 200 national firms listed in the November, 1985, issue of Corporate Design & Realty magazine.

Dornsife, an Indiana native who came to USC on a basketball scholarship, worked as an engineer and project manager before purchasing the Herrick Corp. Today, Herrick has three West Coast structural steel fabricating plants and manufactures buses and recreational vehicle chassis at its Hayward subsidiary, the Gillig Corp.

At the awards ceremony at the Century Plaza Hotel, Robert M. Holmes, chairman of the committee and chief executive officer of Oltmans Construction Co., said that the Southland’s construction industry is “alive and well, and its current momentum will certainly carry through 1987 and probably well into 1988.”
