Foth Wins U.S. Air Rifle Title With Record Score

Bob Foth became the men’s air rifle national champion Wednesday after all shooters completed the event at the 26th U.S. International shooting championships at Prado Tiro.

Foth, of Colorado Springs, Colo., shot a national three-course aggregate record Tuesday of 1,772 out of 1,800 possible points, and his record score held up to win over Rod Fitz-Randolph of Tampa, Fla., who had 1,768. The previous record of 1,767 was set by Glen Dubis in 1984.

In the women’s air rifle competition, Elaine Proffitt of Colorado Springs, won with a 1,567 score out of a possible 1,600.

Shawn Brack, 18, of Garden Grove, a junior-class shooter who has surprised the nation’s shotgun competitors, remained in first place in the international trap event.

The meet ends Friday.
