The World : Spain Bomb Blasts Kill 1
Four bombs detonated by remote control killed a civil guardsman and injured 11 people in northern Spain, authorities said. Three of the bombs were hidden in lampposts along the San Sebastian-La Coruna highway near the coastal town of Zarauz and exploded as civil guardsmen passed by. A fourth exploded in the city of Bilbao as national police were patrolling its red-light district. No group claimed responsibility for the bombings, but authorities blamed the Basque separatist group ETA, an acronym for Basque Homeland and Freedom, which is seeking independence for the northern Basque provinces.
