The American Film Institute selected 11 aspiring writers, chosen from 333 applicants, for a summer Television Writers Program. The workshop will enable them to work with professional comedy writers, directors, producers and performers.

The winners of the William H. Cosby Scholarship are Delle Chatman, who has experience as a TV reporter, actress and educational film director, and Arnold Turner, who works as an associate producer in film and television production.

Other workshop participants include: Barbara Davilman, an administrative assistant of a telecommunications company; Michael Sardo, a writer and performer at L.A.’s Groundling Theater; Richard Day, who has been a rock music columnist and written comedic rock videos; Kerry Leary, a former writer’s assistant for “General Hospital”; Gary Klein, a former Washington, D.C., attorney; Midgia Chinea-Varela, who has written for the television series “The Facts of Life”; Kelly Thomas McMakin, who has experience as a real estate salesman and board game designer; and the team of Sally Smith and Donna Trujillo, who share a background in home-video sales.
