Municipal Elections Scheduled in Jamaica
Prime Minister Edward Seaga has called municipal elections for July 29, but he told a rally of his Jamaica Labor Party that general elections will not be held in the immediate future.
Shortly after the rally Sunday, gunmen fired on a car in a convoy escorting National Security Minister Winston Spaulding, party officials said Monday. No injuries were reported.
The call to municipal elections comes as the opposition People’s National Party, led by former Prime Minister Michael Manley, is well ahead of Seaga’s party in opinion polls.
