Layoffs in public relations, research, advertising and finance would account for most of the job cuts, according to industry officials. CBS News would lay off at least 60 workers and the money-losing “Nightwatch” news show might be canceled. A cutback of 600 would amount to 7% of the group’s 8,000 employees. The group posted $360.6 million in operating profit in 1985, down 11.7% from the previous year.
