Consumers Union, publisher of Consumer Reports magazine, is suing the Comptroller of the Currency to get the list of consumer complaints that have been filed against banks across the country. The suit was filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Consumers Union had requested the information in 1985 under the Freedom of Information Act as part of an effort to evaluate bank compliance with the Fair Credit Billing Act. The Comptroller of the Currency denied Consumers Union’s request.
