PAGING HUNTER THOMPSON: What’s going on at Rolling Stone these days? According to a report in New York magazine, Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner has instituted a new drug-testing policy for magazine staffers that “prohibits the possession or use of drugs on company premises” and reserves the right to test employees for alcohol or drug use.” However, Wenner insists that the news has been blown way out of proportion. “We’re not in any way starting any drug-testing program,” Wenner told Pop Eye. “We issued a new employee policy manual which allows us the right to test, if the circumstances ever arose. But it’s just boiler-plate language. No one’s been tested and there’s no anticipation of it happening. The only reason anyone’s even talking about it is because it sounds sexy with Rolling Stone being involved.”
