Polish Priest Agrees to Recant Statement in Slander Case

WARSAW —
A pro-Solidarity priest, in an out-of-court settlement on slander charges, agreed to recant a statement declaring that Polish government press spokesman Jerzy Urban is worse than Nazi Propaganda Minister Josef Goebbels.
The state-run news agency PAP said Friday that Urban sued the priest, Father Jan Uminski, for slander. The trial was due to begin June 27, but the two men reached an out-of-court settlement.
