The Ventura County Superior Court ordered a 14-year-old Oxnard boy to spend the next nine years of his life at a private youth home in Lancaster after he pleaded guilty to having shot his father, paralyzing him for life, because he thought that he had been unfairly disciplined. Ray Castro Jr. was arrested last April on a charge of attempted murder, but was allowed to plead guilty to the lesser charge of assault with a deadly weapon when his father, Ray Castro Sr., refused to testify against him. Superior Court Judge Lawrence Storch also imposed a fine of $1,000 and ordered the boy’s parents to reimburse the county for the cost of holding him for 12 weeks before his sentencing.
