Boy George’s record company said today the androgynous rock singer is under round-the-clock medical supervision, and police said they will postpone questioning him in connection with a series of drug raids in which his brother and singer Marilyn were arrested.

Marilyn, a close friend of Boy George who also is known for wearing outrageous gowns and makeup, appeared in court today on a charge of possessing heroin. He was not asked to enter a plea, and was released without bail pending another hearing.

The 23-year-old blond singer, whose real name is Peter Robinson, wore black clothes and a mauve eyeshade. He refused to talk to reporters.

Boy George’s brother, Kevin O’Dowd, and three other people also were arraigned at Marylebone Magistrates Court. They were ordered held for a week on charges of conspiring to supply Boy George with heroin.

Police said the five were arrested Tuesday during police raids on six locations in northwest London, including Boy George’s residence.

The singer’s record company, Virgin Records, issued a statement saying Boy George was put under medical care Monday at an undisclosed place and appealed to the press to “leave Boy George alone for one month.”

Last week, another of Boy George’s brothers, David O’Dowd, said in a television interview that the singer had been a heroin addict for eight months. But Boy George denied that he was an addict or that he was ill, although he has lost a great deal of weight.

Boy George, 25, shot to fame as lead singer of the Culture Club rock band in 1982 with the hit song, “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?”
