Pasadena : Library Closed for Move

Share

The Pasadena Central Library will be closed until Monday so that 200,000 books in the library’s collection can be transferred to the north entry of the library, where construction of two additional stack levels has been completed.

Renovation of the north entry, which cost $2 million and took 15 months to complete, will make the building more accessible to handicapped patrons, many of whom previously needed staff assistance to enter the library.

Two levels have been added to the north entry, doubling the storage area for circulating books. Books from the regular collection will no longer be shelved in the Children’s Room, Fine Arts Room, Main Hall and Auditorium.

Edward M. Szynaka, information director for the Pasadena Public Library, said the renovation was done with a commitment to preserving the architectural features of the building, which opened in 1927.
