Red Cross Leader to Retire

GENEVA —
Alexandre Hay, 66, will retire next year as president of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the agency announced Wednesday. The all-Swiss agency is guardian of the Geneva War Conventions on humane treatment of prisoners and civilians. Hay will be succeeded by Cornelio Sommaruga, 54, currently Switzerland’s state secretary for foreign trade.
