ON THE TOWN: Contrary to any rumors you may have heard, Madame Wong’s West isn’t shutting down. But the club is cutting back on its live-music policy, restricting bands to the upstairs room only. According to Esther Wong, she will be moving her restaurant this weekend from Chinatown to the downstairs area of Wong’s West, which will feature both food and (later in the evening) dance music. Though Wong has long been an enthusiastic supporter of the local music scene, she sounded disenchanted with the raucous antics of many habitues of the club, complaining about a recent incident where a patron blew up a toilet in the club’s men’s room. “I’ve swallowed a lot of bitter medicine and I’m tired of a lot of these bands,” she said. “They treat me awful and are driving me crazy, and I don’t deserve the aggravation.”
