Bell City Council Overrules Planners, Decides to Permit Dancing in Public

Share

The Bell City Council, overruling the Planning Commission’s recommendation, Monday agreed to amend the municipal code to allow public dancing in the city under certain conditions.

A survey of surrounding cities shows that Bell is the only city that places a prohibition of any kind on public dancing. Some of the conditions being considered would be to require a conditional use permit, to put limits on the size of a dance area and the hours that dancing is allowed, as well as requiring a minimum of two uniformed security guards.

The city code now allows certain dances sponsored by schools and organizations that are not open to the public.
