Meese Report on Pornography
I hasten to agree with The Times editorial position that the report of the pornography commission is a joke. It is almost incredible that grown-ups would waste the taxpayers’ money and their own time chasing around the country to prove two fairly obvious propositions--first, that pornography is big business and second, that it’s pretty sleazy stuff.
Yes, the report is a joke and it brings to mind Ogden Nash’s lines years ago:
“Senator Smoot, Republican, Ute, is planning a ban on smut;
Oh Rootie-toot-toot for Smoot of Ute!”
Where is Nash when we need him?
