Illinois Democrats could find themselves barred from holding a presidential primary in 1988 because of a chain of events triggered by the victories last March of two Lyndon H. LaRouche Jr. supporters, officials said. The Democrats have no candidate for governor since Adlai E. Stevenson III bolted the party rather than run on the ticket with the LaRouche backers. The law defines an “established” political party as one whose candidate for governor receives at least 5% of the general election vote.
