Sheriff’s deputies and the California Highway Patrol were involved in a wild high-speed chase of an allegedly drunk driver that began in Paramount and ended early this morning with separate crashes that injured a sheriff’s deputy, two Highway Patrol officers and a civilian whose car got entangled in the pursuit. All were treated at local hospitals and released.

The chase covered 30 miles over five freeways and ended in West Los Angeles when Shawn Scott, 21, of Long Beach quietly surrendered about 12:30 a.m. as his car ran out of gas on the San Diego Freeway. Scott was booked for investigation of felony hit-and-run driving and driving under the influence of alcohol, and was jailed in lieu of $5,000 bail, sheriff’s officials said.
