Santa Monica : Trauma Center Status Given

On Tuesday, Santa Monica Hospital Medical Center became a county designated rural trauma center. The hospital is now one of 22 facilities, including Level I and II centers, designated to receive critically injured people who need immediate surgery, said hospital spokesman Ted Braun. Rural trauma centers must have a surgeon on call 24 hours a day who is within 20 minutes of the hospital, he said.
