French authorities expelled a suspected member of the Spanish Basque separatist group ETA (Basque Homeland and Freedom). Jose Varona Lopez, believed to be a member of the ETA’s military arm Commando Madrid, was deported to Spain under an order from the Interior Ministry. Police said they sought the expulsion of Lopez after learning he was “preparing to commit terrorist acts” in France. France recently deported the suspected leader of ETA, Domingo Iturbe Abasolo, to Gabon.
