Apropos of The Times’ fine editorial (June 29), “Defying the Rule of Law,” the following quotations come to mind. President Eisenhower, speaking before the American Society of Newspaper Editors in 1953, said: “Any nation’s right to a form of government and economic system of its own choosing is inalienable. Any nation’s attempt to dictate to other nations their form of government is indefensible.

Simon Bolivar, known as the George Washington of South America, prophetically said more than 150 years ago: “The United States seems destined by Providence to plague the Americas with miseries in the name of liberty.”
