Linda Buchanan of Encinitas Wins Japan Triathlon Series

Linda Buchanan of Encinitas won the women’s event and Bob White of San Francisco won the men’s race by only 18 seconds in the Japan Triathlon Series, a one-day competition in swimming, cycling and running.

Buchanan won in a time of 2 hours 3 minutes and 36 seconds. The 31-year-old White was timed in 1:55:40. A total of 516 competitors from 10 countries participated in the event.

Dian Girard-Rives of the United States was runner-up in the women’s event in 2:06:27 with American Kirsten Hanssen third in 2:07:24.

Greg Stewart of Australia was second among the men in 1:55:58.
