Linda Buchanan of Encinitas Wins Japan Triathlon Series

SENDAI, Japan — Linda Buchanan of Encinitas won the women’s event and Bob White of San Francisco won the men’s race by only 18 seconds in the Japan Triathlon Series, a one-day competition in swimming, cycling and running.
Buchanan won in a time of 2 hours 3 minutes and 36 seconds. The 31-year-old White was timed in 1:55:40. A total of 516 competitors from 10 countries participated in the event.
Dian Girard-Rives of the United States was runner-up in the women’s event in 2:06:27 with American Kirsten Hanssen third in 2:07:24.
Greg Stewart of Australia was second among the men in 1:55:58.
