“The Man of Property.” Listen for Pleasure. This is the first (c. 1906) of the nine Forsyte sagas by John Galsworthy, a sort of continuing “Upstairs Upstairs.” The odious central figure in this richly evocative episode (as richly read by Sir Michael Hordern) is the impenetrable Soames, who treats his beauteous wife, Irene, like another piece of furniture. She rebels--but this was not the time of feminist sensibility and the results are anguishing. Information: (716) 636-9260. 1/2
