Fireman’s Fund Corp., citing tighter underwriting and more disciplined management, reported that its second-quarter net income jumped to $55 million, compared to an $84-million loss in the same quarter a year ago. The Novato-based firm said property liability premiums accounted for a big share of the improvement.
