Paintings by Portuguese artists will be on display at UC Irvine’s Phineas Banning Alumni House from Friday through Aug. 3.

The exhibition of more than 40 original artworks is free and open to the public. Visiting hours are 2 to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.

The show is presented by Lisbon’s Galeria Yela art gallery as part of its “19th Exhibition of Portuguese Art in the United States.” The paintings, ranging in price from $600 to $2,500, will be for sale during the Irvine exhibition.

“Our goal is to introduce the best of Portugal’s artistic works to the United States and other countries to give Portuguese artists recognition and respect outside of their own country,” said Jose D. Rodrigues, director of Galeria Yela.

Rodrigues said the show will feature works by Jesus Guido, who is a noted painter of horse races and polo matches.
