Reggie Jackson has filed a counterclaim against a Racine man who has alleged that the Angel player injured him during a dispute over Jackson’s refusal to sign an autograph.

Attorney Gerald Boyle, who is representing Jackson in the case, said the claim seeks payment of lawyers’ fees plus $1 from Donald E. Weimer, of Racine.

Boyle said the claim, filed in Milwaukee County Circuit Court, contends that Weimer violated Jackson’s right of privacy, harassed him and embarrassed him during an incident May 3 at Major Goolsby’s Tavern.

“Mr. Jackson realizes that public figures such as those in sports have to put up with a lot of abuse,” Boyle said.

Weimer has sued Jackson for $150,000 in damages in a case that is pending before Circuit Judge Patricia S. Curley.

Milwaukee County District Attorney E. Michael McCann and John Carter, the city of Milwaukee’s chief prosecutor, have refused to issue battery charges against Jackson.

Carter said, however, that Weimer could file a disorderly conduct charge against Jackson. But Carter said it would mean that both men would have to answer to the same charge.
