35,000 Troops Join in Start of Desert Maneuvers

RIVERSIDE —
About 35,000 troops participated Friday in the opening round of 10-day military maneuvers code-named “Gallant Eagle ’86.”
The biennial war games are the largest maneuvers staged in the United States to ensure that Marines, soldiers, sailors and pilots will be able to respond quickly and effectively if called upon in a military emergency.
