AND NOW HERE’S THE NEWS: Geez--sound-track albums are so confusing these days. Which brings us to “Nothing in Common,” the Arista sound track to the new Tom Hanks and Jackie Gleason film that opens Wednesday. Since the film makers apparently couldn’t decide who should write the title song, they commissioned two of them. One song, by Christopher Cross, features the film’s title in its refrain (and plays at the opening of the film), though it’s officially called “Loving Strangers.” The actual title song, which is the first single from the album, is “Nothing in Common” by the Thompson Twins. . . . Capitol Records has a sound track coming out next month that features performances by Cliff Richard, Freddie Mercury, Julian Lennon, Sir Laurence Olivier, Dionne Warwick. . . . Wait a minute--Laurence Olivier? Don’t worry--he hasn’t cut a rap record too. The sound track is from the London stage play “Time,” in which Olivier makes several cameo appearances (via hologram) to narrate the proceedings. . . . Michael Des Barres’ new video, “Money Don’t Come Easy,” features the Power Station vocalist with a striking co-star, actress Melanie Griffith.
