The head coach of the Soviet women’s basketball team has been replaced, following the team’s disappointing performance in the Goodwill Games, and 7-foot-2 center Yuliana Semyonova has been dropped from the roster for next month’s World Championships.

Coach Vadim Karranov was replaced by Leonid Yachmenev, coach of the national championship team, Dynamo Novosibirsk. Yachmenev then announced the squad for the world competition, which did not include Semyonova, who played for the Soviet team that lost the gold medal to the United States in the Goodwill Games.
