Medical Care

As secretary of Physicians Who Care, I am responding to Betty McGill’s letter (July 21) on medical care for Medicare patients. She states in her letter that she was unable to receive medical care because the particular physician she had called did not take any new Medicare patients.

Let us assure the public that almost all physicians are willing to accept new Medicare patients. Most of them will accept Medicare payments as payment in full, should there be any financial hardship on the patient’s part.

McGill can call the County Medical Assn. or our office to receive referrals to qualified specialists in her area who would take her as a new Medicare patient.

A response of this particular physician’s secretary does not reflect the attitude of the entire medical profession. Our professional ethic remains to serve as our patient’s advocate, no matter what the age or financial status of that individual.
