N.Y. Fire Dept. to Divest Stocks Tied to S. Africa

NEW YORK —
The $1.6 billion New York City Fire Department Pension Fund announced Wednesday that it will divest about $40 million of its stock in companies doing business with South Africa.
Mayor Edward I. Koch, one of the fund’s trustees, criticized President Reagan for not being more aggressive in pressuring the Pretoria government to end its policy of apartheid.
